OPPOSITES ATTRACT

Date: 2009-2010

Exhibit: Atelier Saifi, Beirut, Lebanon

Material used: Acrylic on canvas

We typically think of a shape as a closed contour.

So, if you take a line and enclose it, then you will have created a shape. Shapes play an essential role in the creation of art and the way they complete and attract each other is art.

All shapes will fall into one of two categories: geometrical shapes and organic shapes. Geometric shapes such as circles, triangles or squares have perfect, uniform measurements and don’t often appear in nature. Organic shapes are associated with things from the natural world, like plants and animals. These paintings are a study on two-dimensional geometrical shapes versus organic/freeform shapes. The focus of these paintings is the interaction between manmade shapes and organic shapes from the natural world and the way they attract one another.

A collection inspired by graffiti drawings and patterns using bright acrylic primary colors.

«I believe that shapes that are very different from each other are often attracted to each other»
